Pole Fitness report on BBC today

So there has been a fairly good bit of publicity for pole on the BBC today. I feel the BBC did good to bring to pole to the world without any smut. Although I couldn’t help by be concerned about the student who seemed to of broken lots of bones through pole, while yes it can be a dangerous activity at times, respect is needed for the pole, but you shouldn’t be in the habit of breaking bones!

The person who ran at the pole and jumped on was a little worrying, along with the dodgy spotting techniques.

Overall it was nice to see it not being called stripper pole on daytime TV. Yes it has origins but doesn’t mean we all strip in class. Was also great to see many ages taking part in a mixed gender class, too many pole schools discriminate against men, we at Purity don’t.

Click here. It is worth a watch :)

Aerial Hoop Intermediate Instructor Training

Last Saturday I had a wonderful 8 hours of intense and mostly practical Intermediate instructor training for Aerial Hoop. My hands are well conditioned now for much more Hoop. We learnt lots of new moves, top bar work, rolls, and combos. Always on these course I meet lovely people, and learn so much from Kate Edwards from Spin City.

I have my exam work to do, probably about Spring time, and then I will be one of the first Intermediate Aerial Hoop Instructors in the UK.

Looking forward to teaching beginners Hoop next week, first classes are on Monday in Reading, Berkshire!

Free Pole Dancing Lesson / Pay as you go pole dancing / Aerial Hoop classes

I have quite a few changes and special offers to Purity Pole Dancing in Reading for February.

Pay as you Pole
I am introducing 2 pay as you go classes, called Pay as you Pole. These can be booked on the day of the class up until 5pm, a discount is offered when booking 3 classes in one go. These are very different than the courses, as there is a maximum of 2 per pole, beginners and experienced polers are welcome. This means the classes are much more trick based, so routines and spinny pole will not be taught. These classes are particularly good for those not able to commit to a regular course. Current Purity students on courses get Pay as you Pole classes for half price.

Pay as you Pole will be on Tuesdays at 8.05pm and Thursdays at 8.35pm, from 19th February 2013, £10 per class, £25 for booking 3 classes, £5 for existing Purity Course payers, click here.

Aerial Hoop
A new discipline to come to Purity Pole, is Aerial Hoop, also known as Lyra. I have found there to be a fair few similarities to pole, which has been making it incredible fun to learn. The Hoop is steel, and a range of tricks and poses are taught in and on the Hoop, along with some routines. I am introducing beginners Hoop with a maximum of 3 students per Hoop.

Aerial Hoop will be on Mondays at 7pm and 8.05pm from the 18th February 2013, the 4 week course is £40, click here.

Free Introductory Class
For the month of February 2013, you can join Purity and have your first pole class for free. This offer is for your very first class either in the Beginners pole class, Intermediate pole class, or in a Pay as you Pole class. Please note you must contact Purity to book, and claim your FREE pole dancing lesson.

All pole dancing classes and aerial hoop lessons are taught in the Purity Studio in Reading, Berkshire.

Belated FREE Christmas Pole Jam

Now is the time for our belated Christmas Pole Jam, as the one in December was cancelled. (Don’t worry, the decorations are down)

This is mainly for old and current Purity students, please let me know if you would like to do a little routine, perhaps one of the old routine workshops with a friend.

I know some of you make fantastic cakes, so my cake ladies please do feel free to make some yummy cakes.

There are 12 spaces, to allow for plenty of pole time. Please let me know if you would like to come.

This event is open to all those who have some pole experience from beginners to advance. I will be on hand to give you some help if need be. (Please keep in mind if anyone is doing anything particularly dangerous you’ll be asked to stop)

The studio will have 6 poles, mirrors, mats and a big crash mat for those scary moves.

Parking is available on the street for 2 hours between 8am and 8pm, if you plan to stay longer then please use the parking at Tesco or at the Park.

Details of longer parking and directions are available on http://www.puritypoledancing.com/locations/readingberkshire.html

(Please use the directions from the website, sat navs and online route finders will take you bizarre ways!)

Please do not bring fizzy drinks. outdoor shoes are not allowed on the mats in the studio.

Either contact Jolene through Facebook or by phone on 07961 054 863 to secure your space.

Pole Dancing for 10 Years!!

This month has been my 10 year anniversary for starting to pole dance. I had no idea when I first took a pole dancing course in London, that I would become so addicted. Over the past 10 years I have danced at many locations, from Art Galleries, to coming out of a box at Torture Garden on New Years Eve! I have taught 1000′s of woman to pole and about 40 men, ranging from hen parties to courses to private lessons.

As much as I have loved dancing and working out on the pole, it has been more than that. Pole has always been there for me, through good times and bad. It’s funny to say that it is more than just pole, but it is. It has even given me a job, a wonderful job, teaching so many students. Students who brighten up my week, give me inspiration and make me laugh. It has made me a performer, and shown me that I can do amazing things with my body, that years ago I never thought possible.

It has even got me on TV, on the Radio, in Newspapers and in magazines!

I have met some incredible people through pole, been on fantastic adventures, and loved it. Pole has come so far, from the one course being offered in London, and now vast amounts of towns now holding pole lessons. From the early days of MyPole.co.uk, before Google videos, it was a small community, a large potion being strippers, and now today, the community is huge, so many competitions, and the massive amount of people pole dancing are now doing so more for fun and fitness, than for stripping. It has grown to be more than ‘just a fad’.

I am hoping there will be another 10 years of pole for me, as it has been a blessing on my life.

The Halloween Showcase was a Hit!

The effort that went into this night, made it the best showcase we have ever done. It has been 4 years since we hosted a showcase at the studio, but I think we may hold future ones here, it worked really well.

Helena helped with the deco, and gave up a lot of her time to help me put it all up, but every second was worth it!

Helen and Jenny came and done theatrical make up for those who wanted it, making our corpse bride, zombies and dolls all the more creepy!

I would like to do a theme for the next showcase, as everyone seemed to really get into character, which just added so much more to the night.

We had a great selection of home made cakes, most of which were gone by the end of the night.

Tanny did a fab job hosting, filling the gaps with her magic tricks that stunned everyone! I do think she is a witch!

Here are a few links to routines, which have been uploaded to Youtube:
